We started the summer term with some work on spring and were very excited when some lambs came to visit us. We then moved on to look at mini-beasts. We had some caterpillars in our classrooms and really enjoyed watching them as they gradually grew bigger and then turned into butterflies. We also enjoyed a Bug Day when we were lucky enough to head out into the woods to search for mini-beasts.

During the second half-term, the reception children have been learning about the topic of Light and Dark. As part of this topic we have been learning to re-tell the story of ‘Owl Babies’ by Martin Waddell and learning about nocturnal animals. We were very lucky to receive a visit from two tawny owls called Arthur and Betty from the ‘Hoot with Me Community Interest’ company. The children asked lots of questions and learnt lots of information about owls.

Our new reception children have all settled in well and have enjoyed working on the topic of All About Me. We have also been finding out about autumn and harvest. We recently held a harvest morning when we invited parents and carers in to take part in harvest activities. We made some beautiful crafts and proudly sang our harvest songs.
