Year 2

We’ve had such a great term learning about famous inventors and making some inventions ourselves! The shoemaker sent us a design brief: to design and make a range of shoes for children. First we made a shoe from a sheet of A4 card and then using our designs we considered what fabrics and extras would be best for our shoes. The end results were amazing!

We’ve also enjoyed visiting Easton college for our Multi-skill Event. We were so proud of how well the children participated in every event.

Last Tuesday we enjoyed a Christmas Experience all day event. We participated in activities such as retelling parts of the Christmas story with drama, making angels, stars and going on a journey with the shepherds.

Well done to all of Year 2 for such a fantastic Nativity last Friday.

Year 2 made some lovely poppy tea light holders using clay. We made pinch pots and then used some sculpting tools to add the fine details. Finally, we painted them red and black – they look magnificent!

They form part of a whole school Remembrance display focussing on the brave soldiers who have served for our country and those who are still in service now. There were information and story books available alongside a space for the children to be reflective.

Last half term the children in Year 2 really enjoyed learning about China. On China day the children learnt how to make spring rolls, paper lanterns and they even took part in a dragon dance. The children in both classes worked collaboratively to build The Great Wall of China (not to scale!). They creatively designed and made dragon puppets and sculpted a soldier from the Terracotta Army. At the end of the half term the children took part in an energetic karate session. Well done to all for settling into another busy year at school!
